R i l a s a t a is Alastair Johnson.
"I have been taking photographs since 1986, when I invested in my first 35mm SLR, a Minolta X300 just before going to university. I still have it, it has been my friend on many walks and holidays".
Building an extensive collection of transparencies, he decided to move to digital media in the late nineties, digitizing much of his portfolio to preserve their color and quality, and buying his first digital camera, an Olympus Camedia.
Alastair has continued to develop his craft, exploring new places in the world, always looking for pattern, texture and color in the built and natural landscape.
"There is always some detail, color or trick of light to catch the eye ... and the imagination".
Influences / admired photographers include the early greats - Ansell Adams, William Henry Jackson - and the modern great, Peter Lik.
Today, he exclusively uses Canon digital cameras. When not traveling with his cameras (or planning his next trip) Alastair lives in Berkshire, England, with his partner and two cats. He has a degree in Human Geography, and has worked for an international software company since 1994.
